Your Insulation Project: From Enquiry to Handover

Know what happens at each stage, who confirms the work and which details to keep in writing before an insulation project begins.

KNOW THE HANDOFF

The enquiry and the installation agreement are separate

This website is an enquiry and information service connecting Mississauga homeowners with independent insulation contractors. The contractor confirms availability, any visit fee, the quotation and the installation agreement. Submitting a form does not schedule a visit or authorize work.

The stages below show the questions to settle along the way. The sequence can change when another trade, property approval or an incentive program is involved. Confirm the steps for your home instead of assuming that every project follows one fixed timetable.

THE PROJECT PATH

Six stages with a clear decision at each one

  1. Send the property brief

Provide your postal code, contact details, home type and the concern. Mention existing reports, recent roof work or a planned renovation. You do not need to enter the attic or calculate an R-value.

  2. Clarify the assessment

Discuss whether a quotation visit or another assessment is appropriate. Confirm who attends, the fee if any, accessible areas, reporting scope and arrangements for entry.

  3. Compare a written proposal

Check measured area, existing material, product, preparation, target coverage, exclusions, taxes, payment terms and contractor contact details. Ask for unclear points to be explained before accepting.

  4. Complete prerequisites

Arrange any approved corrective work, ownership permission or required assessment before installation. If a rebate is part of the plan, confirm its sequence with the program before work begins.

  5. Carry out the agreed work

The contractor manages installation under the agreement. If a newly discovered condition changes the scope, ask how it is reported and how a variation is approved before additional work proceeds.

  6. Keep the completion information

Receive the agreed records, discuss access and cleanup, and retain the contractor’s contact information for questions. An invoice, product specification and photographs answer different parts of the handover.

YOUR NEXT STEP

Tell us what is happening in your home

Tell us which rooms feel uncomfortable, what you know about the existing insulation, or which work you are planning. You do not need to know the material or R-value before making an enquiry.

BEFORE THE VISIT

Prepare the occupied space safely

Ask which areas inside the house need to be clear: the route to the access opening, a closet, a landing or the garage below a room. Confirm parking, equipment placement and any building-management arrangements. The contractor should explain what access they need and what the homeowner should prepare.

Do not open concealed assemblies, move unknown insulation or enter a difficult roof space just to gather information. Share what you already know. An accessible-condition visit should state its limits if parts of the roof cannot be examined.

WHO HANDLES WHAT

ContractorAssessment terms, installation scope, pricing, insurance or credentials you wish to verify, and project contacts.
Other tradesWho arranges roofing, exhaust, electrical, finish repairs or specialist assessment where needed.

A BETTER HANDOVER

Agree on records while you are comparing quotes

Ask which product and coverage information will be provided and whether the contractor documents accessible preparation before it is covered. If a section could not be reached, record that limitation alongside the finished work. A photograph can support a record, but it cannot verify every concealed condition.

Keep changes to the scope with the original quote so the invoice makes sense later. The completion checklist provides a practical handover list. For the earlier comparison stage, use 12 things to compare in insulation quotes.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Process questions

How long will the project take?

Ask the contractor after the area, access and preparation are defined. A routine open-attic upgrade and a project needing other trades or finish repairs can have very different schedules.

Does an enquiry commit me to the quote?

No. Confirm any assessment fee separately, then review the contractor’s proposal and terms before agreeing to work.

Who should I contact after installation?

Keep the contractor’s project contact and any written warranty or follow-up terms. Questions about the installed work belong with the provider responsible for that agreement.

Can an energy assessment happen after the upgrade?

Some incentive routes require a pre-work assessment. Check the current route before installation so a required step is not missed.

YOUR NEXT STEP

Let’s start with your home

Share your postal code and a brief description of the project. An attic assessment can help clarify whether a top-up, preparation work or another approach is appropriate.
